2014 Sukma Games

The 2014 Sukma Games, officially known as the XV SUKMA, was a multi-sports event held in Perlis from May 24 to June 4, 2014 with 528 events in 44 sports and disciplines featured in the games. This was Perlis' first time to host the Sukma Games. The optional sports events were held in Kuala Lumpur from June 28 to July 7, 2013, making it the second time the events of the same Sukma Games were held under the jurisdiction of the two Malaysian states.
Perlis is the thirteenth state to host the Sukma Games after Kuala Lumpur, Sarawak, Johor, Perak, Pahang, Selangor, Penang, Sabah, Negeri Sembilan, Kedah, Terengganu, Malacca and the eighth in the 21st Century after Penang, Sabah, Negeri Sembilan, Kedah, Terengganu, Malacca and Pahang.
The final medal tally was led by Terengganu, followed by Federal Territory and Selangor. Several national records were broken during the games. In Perlis, Muhammad Irfan Shamsuddin and Jelinie Empera were awarded Best Sportsman and Best Sportswoman respectively, while in Kuala Lumpur, they were awarded to Danniel Iskandar Richard and Esmelda Arecia Menti Alfred Geling respectively. Though there were several controversies, the games were a successful ones hosted by Perlis yet with the rising standard of competition among Malaysian member states.
